DAYBOOK ENTRY 04 [5 min read]

It’s become such a buzzword…

I’ve been wanting to talk about this for a while on socials but haven’t got around to it – you guys are hearing it here first.

There's a lot of chatter about being authentic online. And while you shouldn't use branding as a band-aid to cut any corners, I don't think there's anything wrong with protecting your humanness. I personally keep my brand a little ways from me. Yes, I will open up online, but I do it in a way that still protects me and doesn’t overexpose that inner part of me that’s sacred.

Authentic branding shouldn’t be about oversharing (and then feeling sick about it later); it’s more about staying true to yourself while sharing relevant ideas in a personal, human way.

You should never feel obligated to overshare online. Actually, revealing too much could potentially harm your brand’s image... But protecting your humanness doesn’t mean you’re being inauthentic; it means you’re setting boundaries and being mindful about what you share to create a healthy atmosphere for your overall well being AND your brand. It’s certainly crucial to find the balance that works for you.

In fact, I never want you to feel pressured to do anything with your brand. You get to decide how you want this to go. You get to decide what aligns with you and your business. If something is feeling icky, let it go, change course. If something “unconventional” is driving you, by all means, keep trying and don’t let the naysayers hold you back.

I’m convinced that the people who are for you, will stay for you. If you get unfollowers by doing something that feels authentically right, it only makes room for a more aligned and engaged audience.

INSPIRATION
I’m loving:

  • Finally getting my pottery studio up and running, and it’s in my back porch; potted plants on one side, wheel setup on the other <3

  • My Facebook Marketplace camcorder!! I am loving the nostalgic vibe of using a digital camera! Highly recommend swiping a cheap one on FBM.

  • My Notion Content Bank. Which has been a huge help in pulling me out of a content funk I went through this past week :,) It's brimming with all my ideas, ready to shake things up whenever I need. Cover my latte (reg milk, no tip, no tax) and get your own Notion Content Bank here!

  • Cooking with fresh fruits and veg again! I recently was gifted Molly Baz’ new cookbook and I’ve been loving experimenting in the kitchen.

CREATIVE ENERGY
I’m learning that a sustainable business sincerely requires alignment from the very foundation. As a procrastinator and someone who gets jumpscared at long to-do lists and deadlines, it’s been absolutely essential for me to 1) rest, and 2) take work breaks during the day so that I can properly refuel and take care of myself. And wow were the mental health girlies right - shutting down your computer at 5pm every day works WONDERS. Almost 2 years into entrepreneurship and I’m just now starting to feel like it’s *possible* to learn how to figure out this work-life balance thing :,)
